Cold War & Modern War Games
1960: The Making of a President
All elections are turning points, but the
presidential election of 1960 holds a special place in American
history. The 1950s had been a period of unparalleled economic growth
and US global power. Richard Nixon served as President Eisenhower's
Vice President through most of the period. Nixon's humble origins
gave him a common touch that appealed to the small town, idyllic
America encompassed by the spirit of the 1950s. John F. Kennedy, was
Nixon's mirror image: charming, Harvard educated and the scion of an
American political dynasty. Kennedy challenged Americans to confront
the uncertainties and tumult that were already emerging in 1960. He
set his vision not in the past, but on new frontiers.
In 1960: The Making of the President, you take on
the role of one of these great protagonists vying to lead America
through an era of turbulent change. The candidates must contend with
all the great issues of the day, from the Cold War to civil rights
to voters' pocket books. This is an election that will turn on
positioning and momentum. The contest is fought on an electoral map
of the United States as it stood in 1960. Using a card-driven game
system, all the major events which shaped the campaign are
represented: Nixon's lazy shave, President Eisenhower's late
endorsement, and the 'Catholic question' are all specific event
cards. The famous televised debates are also an important component
of gameplay.
As with a real election campaign, the challenge is
to adapt your game plan as the ground shifts out from under you.
There are never enough resources or time to do everything, but you
need to make the tough calls to propel yourself into the White
House. This fast-playing strategy game for two players challenges
you to relive the most significant political contest of the
Twentieth Century. Will you recreate history, or rewrite it? 1960:
The Making of the President provides you the opportunity to do both.

Operation Whirlwind
Operation Whirlwind is a simulation of the situation
in Budapest in November 1956. The Soviet-imposed Communist government of
Hungary has fallen. Newly inaugurated President Imre Nagy, swept along
by the momentum of the popular revolution, has declared an end to the
one-party system and threatened to pull out of the Warsaw Pact and to
declare neutrality. The Soviet government cannot allow this defection
and launches "Operation Whirlwind" – military intervention
in Hungary to restore order, culminating in a desperate battle in the
streets of Budapest.

Twilight Struggle
"Now the trumpet summons us again, not as a
call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though
embattled we are – but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight
struggle." – John F. Kennedy
In 1945, unlikely allies toppled Hitler's war machine,
while humanity's most devastating weapons forced the Japanese Empire to
its knees in a storm of fire. Where once there stood many great powers,
there now stood only two – the United States and the Soviet Union. The
world had scant months to collectively sigh in relief before a new
conflict threatened. Unlike the titanic struggles of the preceding
decades, this conflict would be waged not primarily by soldiers and
tanks, but by spies and politicians, scientists and intellectuals,
artists and traitors. Twilight Struggle is a two-player game simulating
the 45 year dance of intrigue, prestige, and occasional flares of
warfare between the USSR and the USA. The entire world is the stage on
which these two titans fight. The game begins amidst the ruins of Europe
as the two new superpowers scramble over the wreckage of WWII and ends
in 1989, when only the United States remained standing.
Twilight Struggle inherits its fundamental systems
from the card-driven classics We the People and Hannibal. It is a
quick-playing, low-complexity game in that same tradition. The game map
is a world map of the period, whereon players move units and exert
influence in attempts to gain allies and control for their superpower.
Twilight Struggle's Event cards add detail and flavor
to the game. They cover a vast array of historical happenings: the
Arab-Israeli conflicts, Vietnam, the peace movement, the Cuban Missile
Crisis, and other such incidents that brought the world to the brink of
nuclear annihilation. Subsystems capture the prestige-laden Space Race
as well as nuclear tensions, with the possibility of game-ending nuclear
war. Can you, as the U.S. President or Soviet Premier, lead your nation
to victory? Play Twilight Struggle and find out.
Game Components: 228 full
color counters, One Deluxe 22"x34" full-color cardboard map,
110 Event Cards, Two six-sided dice, 24-page Rule book, 2 full color

Antarctica, Global Warming
Global warming has melted the great ice sheets. No Polar
caps remain. The oceans are free. Iceberg memories… that's all they are.
Gone are the magnificent harbors that once dotted the shores of every
land. The waters have risen more than 80 meters. Land is everything!
Millions are starving. Fertile plains are no more. The great grain belts
of the world have been tightened. Tension runs high yet there is hope.
Four rallying hosts prepare in haste. One dominion can save but a few…
the race is on. Armies are raised with every man coming forth. Unite and
fight… conquer or be lost. Combine your forces, assemble your fleets and
breach the storms. Clouds clear for one last stand. The prize is yours…
ANTARCTICA.
The newest feature is our patent pending
"Interactive Play Surface" which allows storms to move around
the game board affecting game pieces with a roll of a dice.
The play surface was designed from real GIS data of how
the world may look when all the ice caps have melted. The 4 most effected
areas of the world were selected. The old coast line is visible under
water and the new coast line is used for the playable segments.
The main objective is to be the first to take over
Antarctica.
